At the beginning of his spectacular career Elvis Presley had a private secretary named Trude Forsher (1920–2000), who came from a Viennese Jewish family. Elvis was just starring in his first film Love Me Tender when Trude joined the team of his manager Colonel Tom Parker. She advanced to the position of “promotion coordinator” and answered countless calls from his female fans. At close range she experienced Elvis’s rise to superstardom, yet she paid the price of her own personal happiness for it: Her husband became jealous of her success and left the family. In 1960, Trude and Adolph Zukor II founded their own TV production company. After retiring, she committed herself to social and political issues as an advisor at Los Angeles City Hall, which she received several awards for.

“Trude and Elvis. Vienna – Memphis – Hollywood” can be seen from April 5, 2017 to November 12, 2017 in the Annex of the Museum Dorotheergasse, a Wien Holding museum. Appearing with the exhibition, which was curated by Marcus Patka and designed by Bernhard Denkinger, is a German-English catalog costing € 14.90, self-published by the museum and available at the Bookshop Singer museum shop. The Museum Dorotheergasse – Palais Eskeles, Dorotheergasse 11, 1010 Vienna, is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our second location, Museum Judenplatz, Judenplatz 8, 1010 Vienna, is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
